Clean Water Wells Program

Burkina Faso has a high rate of communicable diseases like Malaria, Dengue Fever, and Yellow Fever. Diseases like this spread rapidly in communities where there is no clean source of drinking water. Feeding Nations Through Education’s second program is to provide clean, drinkable water in villages as an investment in the health of rural populations.

A Unique Design

Our well is designed to not only provide clean water, but also to prevent the transfer of diseases. First, we drill down at least 186 feet past the bedrock layer, so the well is tapped into a clean water table. The water is taken to the capitol city of Ouagadougou for lab testing to ensure the water is safe to drink and meets international standards of clean water.

Next, we pour a large cement slab and construct cement walls around the well to prevent water from pooling and creating mud puddles where mosquitoes could breed. Our wells also have a water trough for animals that runs into a drainage ditch covered with rocks for excess water to spill into. Without these safeguards in place, people are exposed to diseases.

As of 2023, we have completed a total of 16 clean water wells in the following villages.

  • Village of Yaoghin
  • Village of Kantoghin
  • Village of Komsilga
  • Village of Nayiri, Thyou
  • Village of Tang-Seega, Gogho
  • Village of Zinkemzugou
  • Village of Kossoghin, Bingo
  • Village of Saambin
  • Village of Centre-Thyou
  • Village of Goudnaaba
  • Campus of I.S.B (our School)
  • Village of Toessin
  • Village of Tanyoko

A combined total of over 126,000 people drink from these wells every day, thanks to our donors. Our well costs $15,000.
