International School Barkwende (I.S.B)

Feeding Nations Through Education’s primary goal is to enable families to educate their children. We believe that education is the key to sustainable development and helps break the cycles of poverty within a community. For the first six years, children attend elementary school in a village, but few go on to junior high and high school. Our goal is to prepare students for higher education, so they can become skilled workers and leaders.

Educating The Next Generation

We opened the first wing of our junior high school in October, 2017 with plans to expand into a boarding school for both junior and high schools. Our school is in Komsilga, in the heart of Burkina Faso. The campus under construction will include a middle school (8 classrooms), high school (8 classrooms), student dormitories, computer lab, clinic, library, auditorium, soccer field and basketball court, cafeteria, administration offices, agriculture training center/area and guest housing. At full capacity, I.S.B will host 1,000 students.

Students are being prepared to be solution oriented agents with instruction in English, French, Mathematics, Science, Introduction to Computers, Critical Thinking.

As a direct result of all our programs, over 1,133 children are now schooled in Burkina Faso, some in elementary schools and others in our middle school.

Faces & Stories of Some of Our Students

Julie Nana

Julie is from a family of 13 and the very first of her family to attend school. “I am very thankful for the opportunity of education FNTE gave me at International School Barkwende. I want to be a nurse when I grow up so I can heal the sick people in my family and the other families too”.

Nadege Tiendrebeogo

Nadege finished elementary school in her village but missed a year of schooling because her parents could not afford junior high tuition. She was accepted at I.S.B. and is now pursuing her dream of becoming a medical doctor someday. “I am given a chance at International School Barkwende. My parents and I are so happy that I am back to school. I am going to get educated and make my family living conditions better.”

Hubert Kabore

Hubert comes from a family of 15 people and is one of 2 children that his parents were able to send to school due to FNTE Care Package. “I like International School Barkwende because I am learning a lot, especially English. When I grow up I want to be like the founder of Feeding Nations, speaking multiple languages and helping people with what they don’t have… I want to be an English teacher”.

Kiswendsida Denis Nana

Kiswendsida and his adopted family are the most excited to finally have a junior high school in their village. “I am not sure yet, but I want to be like a leader that will help get the country out of poverty…so I want to study all the way to the university.”

Gaston B. Ouedraogo

Gaston is hope for his mother who is determined to do anything she can to help him get educated. She walked him for miles to register at I.S.B. “FNTE provided me the books and copybooks, pen and pencil, clothing and shoes to study here at I.S.B. I want to be a judge when I grow up to help bring justice in the country…”

Ibrahim Kabore

Ibrahim is the youngest in a family of 18 people, but the very first to make it to junior high. According to his parents, I.S.B opened its doors at the perfect time for their child. “If I.S.B was not here, I probably would not get to continue school just like my older step brothers and sisters didn’t. I like learning English but I really want to be a computer engineer when I grow up”.

Abdul Razack

Abdul survived malaria multiple times and is known as the miracle kid in his extended family. “I am happy to be at I.S.B where I am getting education. My parents would not be able to send me to the city to go to school; so, I am glad that the founder just built this school here. I want to be the prime minister of my country and go back to my village and help people like Mr. Alfred does”.

Pingdwende G. Nana

Pingdwende is the oldest girl of her family and the first to attend school. She travels 7 miles each way on her bike to school while reciting her English lessons. “I am glad I get to go to school at International School Barkwende. I want to be a role model for my siblings and be a lawyer when I grow up so I can help women like my mom”.
