Empowering Women Entrepeneurs with Microloans

As part of Feeding Nations’ vision, we empower women by granting them a $100 microloan that enables them to develop their own business. Some may purchase a sewing machine to start a tailoring business or a bicycle to start selling produce and spices at local markets. Others may start a jewelry or soap making business. These women spend a year building a business and then pay the $100 forward to another woman.

Our coordinator, Blandine, meets with the women and sets them into groups of 5. These support groups offer encouragement, ongoing support, and help us track the progress of these women and their businesses.

Our microloan program equips these female entrepreneurs with the business skills needed to become financially independent. Very few women in Burkina Faso have the opportunity to learn basic business skills and our program provides them with an education that makes a lasting difference in their community.

Over 1,746 women have already benefited from our program and are doing well as hand-crafted business owners, bread winners and backbones of their children’s education.
